Milk Procurement Routes

26 milk procurement routes with different capacity of motor vehicles are being operated in the 3 districts viz. Thanjavur, Thiruvar and Nagapattinam so as to ensure uninterrupted milk collection from village dairy cooperatives.



Chilling and Processing Units

The Thanjavur Milk Union has it’s a central dairy in Thanjavur with the capacity to process 26000 LPD, one chilling centre at Pattukottai with the capacity to chill 10,000 LPD and has 5 milk chilling centers in Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam Districts with the total capacity of 35000 LPD.



Milk Homogenization

The Milk Union owns a plant in the central dairy with the capacity to Homogenize 5000 Lts. of processed milk. The milk selected and prepared for pouch packing is pasteurized.



Milk Packeting

For local sales,milk is pocketed in Thanjavur Dairy with well design high speed milk pouch packing machines with which 5000 milk sachets can be prepared per hour.



Cold Storage

Before delivery to milk distribution vehicles, milk sachets are kept in cold room having the capacity of 13,000 lts. In the cold room milk sachets are kept in 4º centigrade and now the cold room capacity has been enhanced to 50000 lts under Honorable Minister announcement scheme and construction is under progress.



Milk Distribution Routes

For timely and uninterrupted milk supply to local outlets in the area of operation, 15 milk distribution routes are operated with adequate capacity of motor vehicles on contract basis and all the Marketing vehicles are covered with Puff-Insulation and Tharpalin for Procurement vehicles and all the vehicles have been displayed advertisements for AAVIN milk and by-products on both sides of the vehicles.



By-Product Manufacturing and Packing

Ghee is prepared from butter and milk ghova is prepared regularly and packed in the dairy for local sales in various quantity denominations.



Quality Control Laboratory

One Laboratory has been well established in the central dairy where in well trained quality testing personnel have been put in service. In the laboratory the following tests are regularly carried out to ensure the quality of the milk for distribution and manufacturing of by-products is upto the mark. In the laboratory we are having appropriate equipments to carry out microbial tests.

Effluent Treatment Plant

In the central dairy of Thanjavur Milk union, an effluent treatment plant is well maintained to drain the waste water from the dairy plant effectively. The treated water has been channelized to the adjacent fodder field.
